1912 Russet "Marching" Shoe Reproduction GMTO - 50% Deposit

Sale price$309.99

THE HISTORY:

The Russet Marching Shoe was introduced by the U.S. Army as a modernized alternative to the heavier standard issue boots previously used by servicemen. Offering a lighter and more comfortable design, it was ideal for peacetime activities such as marching and training. Traditionally made from russet-colored leather, its low-cut, ankle-length style made it easier to produce and maintain, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to military footwear.

Although originally designed for peacetime, the Russet Marching Shoe also saw service during the early days of World War I. Its lightweight construction and practicality made it a valuable asset during this transitional period in military history. The shoe’s introduction marked a pivotal step in the evolution of combat footwear, paving the way for more specialized designs to meet the demands of modern warfare. Today, it remains a timeless symbol of ingenuity and progress in military design.

THE LEATHER:

Aspen is Horween's latest horse leather tannage, crafted from the front section of the horse. This leather is prized for its dense fibers and tight grain, offering a rustic aesthetic that blends smooth grain areas with natural pebbled contours.

GMTO DETAILS:

This GMTO (Group Made to Order) will run until August 31st, 2025, or until all leather is allocated. Please note that all leather will be confirmed following the GMTO period. If your leather option is no longer available, another option will need to be selected or your deposit will be returned.

Pricing: The full base price is $619.99 USD, with the final payment due prior to delivery.

Leather Characteristics: Horween horsefront is a softer, lighter leather, requiring both a lining and a structured toe puff for durability. Due to the lightness of the material, a leather outsole or rubber half sole is recommended for optimal performance.

Modern reproduction

A great modern take on a historic design. The pattern helps hug the heel in a pleasant way for true to brannock fitting in the Morris last while leaving plenty of volume for the forefoot. Aspen is a high character, soft veg tan, but surprisingly resilient for horsefront.

Catchy name boots
Incredibly special reproduction with an awesome leather

I was able to jump in on a pair of these on its first run and it's by far one of my top go to boots. Aspen leather is incredibly soft, light but still a veg tan that moulds and patinas. Caswell has really built such a special reproduction true to its legacy yet with a last that's pretty good for all round wear. Highly recommend this pair. Jump on them before it's too late

1912 Russet Marching Shoe—Fantastic Reproduction!

This is an excellent, distinctive design that is extremely well built and extremely comfortable for my very difficult to fit feet ( triple whammy of mismatched Brannock sizes, extremely high insteps and extremely high arches). The Horween Aspen Horsefront tannage produces a leather with excellent temper and interesting graining that IMHO is easier to break in than horsebutt.
